Learning the grammar that they will need to become dialectic and rhetorical in Latin. There's been a shift from textbooks and workbooks to a broader category of educational resources, complete with online learning management systems like Blackboard and Sakai. There are real politics to schooling. John Amos Comenius created the first Latin primer, which was essentially the first textbook. This can be more effective (and so much less expensive) than workbook pages. High school students should work through high school level geography texts and workbooks and will begin learning more advanced map skills such as reading world temperature, history or political maps. Over the summer I read a lot of lower grades bloggers, blogging about a Common Core workbook, but it was only available for the lower grades. The *best* book for an adult, independent learner is l “Learn to Read Latin” by Keller and Russell, which is both an exercise book (more activities are in the second volume workbook!) and reference grammar.
